One of the hottest topics in the building industry today is the appearance of high levels of moisture in exterior wall envelopes. Excessive moisture can result in mold, mildew, and structural decay. Builders can reduce liability claims and homeowners can protect their investments by implementing our patent pending Exterior Wall Assembly into their design specifications. Our wall assembly introduces a continuous airspace as well as a continuous thermal break between the exterior wall sheathing and the wall cavity insulation and framing. This air gap provides a wall the ability to “breathe” and dry to the exterior eliminating the need for a breathable type building paper and reduces building energy costs. By providing ventilation either natural or mechanically, we can revolutionize how we address exterior moisture protection. Current building codes require a breathable weather resistive barrier behind the cladding to keep out bulk water and allowing condensation to exit the wall cavity, however in doing so this also allows for moisture intrusion due to capillary action and air infiltration. By installing an air gap membrane, above grade waterproofing of exterior surfaces behind the cladding is possible eliminating breathable type barriers entirely. This opens the door for simpler and more effective ways to seal out moisture effectively.
